Educational Travel

St. Teresa’s Academy proudly offers a multitude of global travel opportunities to help foster our mission of educating young women to think both critically and compassionately.  Our goal is to encourage students to broaden their perspectives by exploring diverse cultures, communities, and viewpoints with the hope of cultivating both empathy and knowledge to be informed, just, and contributing global citizens.

This year, our catalogue of unique faculty led experiences includes:

School Sponsored Travel

Trips sponsored by St. Teresa's Academy that organize the travel itinerary, insurance, flight and payment to the school for the experience. These trips promote curricular or extracurricular content and align with the school's mission. These trips are sponsored by the Academy and those employed as chaperones.  

CSJ Sister School Exchange: Le Puy En Velay, France: To Be Determined. Cost: $3,500
This trip takes us to the community of Le Puy En Velay, France, to visit students and families of St. Joseph School, founded by the Sisters of St. Joseph in 1850. St. Teresa’s Academy students will be paired with a student from St. Joseph and reside with that family during their stay in France. Our primary goal is to build global partnerships with the many Sisters of St. Joseph schools around the world. Students will travel to Paris and Lyon while visiting the Motherland of the Sisters of St. Joseph. The cost of this trip is $3,500/student. This fee covers accommodations, flight, health insurance, excursions, and meals. A sister school exchange program with St. Joseph School in Le Puy En Velay, France,  has been vital in continuing the legacy of the Sisters of St. Joseph and keeping their charisms alive. The congregation was founded in Le Puy in 1650. As part of the program, French students have traveled to Kansas City to live with STA families and attend school for two weeks out of the year. During the summer of 2017, STA students traveled to Le Puy for ten days to learn more about the history of the Sisters of St. Joseph. The program continues to offer STA students an opportunity to travel to the homeland of the Academy’s founders in odd-numbered years.

Independently Sponsored Travel

Trips sponsored by a licensed tour company that organizes the travel itinerary, insurance, flight and payment contract for the experience. These travel/trip opportunities have been approved for marketing to STA students. The trip chaperones are agents of the licensed sponsoring tour company and not acting as employees of St. Teresa's Academy.

Performance Tour of Italy:  June 5-13, 2022.  Cost:  To Be Determined 
Florence and Rome cities will be visited. Choir students will perform four times while traveling - two concerts and two Masses (St. Peter’s Basilica Mass and Santa Maria Nera Church, Lucca)

Scotland and Ireland:  June 8-21, 2022.  Cost:  $4,755
This 15 day adventure will take us to the sites of European power, such as the home of Mary Queen of Scots in Edinburgh Castle, and onto the hills and the Highlands of Scotland, over to the mystical waters where the Loch Ness monster lurks! We will be taking in Scottish culture, wildlife, and lore in Glasgow before taking the ferry over to the Northern Antrim coast of Ireland. We will visit the geological wonder Giant’s Causeway and travel along the coast before heading to the capital city of Dublin to visit the Book of Kells and Trinity College, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, and all the rich history of the streets. We will then extend the trip further by following the famous Ring of Kerry, which takes us from Galway along the southern coast of Ireland where we will be visiting the famous Cliffs of Moher,  Blarney Castle and Stone, Kylemore Abbey, and then fly out of Dublin back to the states! If you would like to register for this trip please visit: explorica.com/Stewart-9096

Interim Week Trips

These travel/trip opportunities will take place during Interim Week, January 5-7, 2022.

Civil Rights Tour
Cost: $500
Grades: 10th, 11th, 12th

This course takes students on a three-day journey examining historical civil rights struggles. We'll head to St. Louis, where we'll stay at the Mother House and hear a presentation from the Sisters of St. Joseph of Carondolet, who will speak about their history fighting for civil rights in St. Louis. Then, on Thursday, we'll go to Memphis, where we will spend the day at the National Civil Rights Museum. On our journey, we'll listen to excerpts from Bryan Stevenson's award-winning book "Just Mercy," journal, and acknowledge that the struggle continues, then examine our roles in the world today.

Crystal Bridges/Museum Tour
Cost:  $200
Grades: 10th, 11th, 12th

The Crystal Bridges class will involve a 2-day trip to Bentonville, Arkansas to the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art. The museum’s collection is intended to welcome all to celebrate the American spirit in a setting that unites the power of art with the beauty of nature. Crystal Bridges takes its name from a nearby natural spring and the bridge construction incorporated in the building, designed by world-renowned architect Moshe Safdie.

The class will kick off this course with a performance by The Kansas City Jazz Orchestra Tuesday, December 7th at 7:00PM at the Kauffman Center, also designed by Moshe Safdie. It is mandatory to attend the performance for this course. Students will conclude the course Friday January 7th with a presentation on the similarities and differences of the two buildings along with feedback and images they collected during their time at the museum and performance. Students will drive in a van with Mrs. Dibble and Mrs. Earl. We will spend the night at 21C Museum Hotel in Bentonville.

Holocaust Studies
Cost:  $1,400
Grades: 11th, 12th

For Interim Week 2022, join Miss Stewart & Mrs. Albritton to explore and tour Washington DC and New York and the history of the Holocaust.

This course will focus on Holocaust studies and explore the sites of DC and New York. Students will spend 6 Days in Washington DC and New York learning about the Holocaust by visiting the National Holocaust Memorial and Museum in Washington DC and the Jewish Heritage Museum in New York City. Students will also hear from Holocaust survivors and second generation who will share their stories.

In addition to the Holocaust studies, students will have the opportunity to visit many other historical and cultural sites. In Washington DC, we will also visit the Mall, Arlington Cemetery, the National Museum of African American History and Culture, the National Portrait Gallery, and possibly tour Congress (this is dependent on if they are in session and covid restrictions). In New York, students will also visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island, Time Square, and watch a Broadway show.

Note: Enrollment for this trip is closed. Separate communication was distributed to advertise this opportunity. Students cannot enroll for this trip during regular Interim registration.
